Damian Ryan

Damian Ryan Damian has been at the forefront of the Irish media and advertising business for many years. His continuous motivation is to innovate and his achievements represent an increasing list of “firsts”.

He combines his desire for exploration with a “can do” attitude which has consistently delivered new and different adventures in the communications landscape.

Beginning as a highly enthusiastic sales rep in 1984 to his current role as a specialist investor and deal-maker in the mergers and acquisitions business, Damian has been responsible for the launch of over 50 magazine titles, ten separate companies operating in various aspects of the communications sphere and has held several board positions with industry trade associations such as the European Interactive Advertising Bureau among others.

His fascination with the online advertising sector began in 1994 with the launch of his first website. This was quickly followed by the launch of DOT IE magazine in 1996 and the now well established Golden Spider Awards in 1997. Damian followed these initiatives by founding ICAN, the first online advertising company in Ireland. Since selling ICAN to Denis O Brien’s Communicorp Group in 2000, Damian has been an investor and co founder in several businesses providing a diverse range of products including video games, mobile television, financial publications and consumer events.

For many years he felt there was a widening knowledge gap between agencies and marketers fueled by the technological advances of the net. His idea was to close this gap by demystifying digital marketing and help to bring about “a wider understanding and acceptance of the net” by producing an easy to understand reference book. In fact Damian actually started writing this book as early as 1998 but the net was changing so much at the time that it didn’t make sense – instead that earlier work saw the light of day as “Internet Advertising Made Easy” a cunningly crafted volume of at least 24 pages listing all the Irish websites prepared to accept advertising!

In 2007 Damian met Calvin Jones, a skilled writer with a rare ability to research a complicated and diverse brief and to disseminate this to a mainstream audience - Calvin shared Damian’s vision and together they embarked on the creation of Digital Marketing Success. Each chapter of the book is a unique collaboration between an “experienced practitioner” and an “experienced communicator”, the objective: to create something of real value to marketers all over the world.

    Hope this reaches you. Glad to see you are doing so well…………Do you remenber me from Pearl and Dean days??? Jackie O’Shea as I was then. Loads happened - went to Uni -got a degree- now work in clinical research. Need a new direction any suggestions………………………..
